Lights dimmed, the audience hushed in anticipation, and the stage came to life as the MADC One Act Plays 2023 unfolded at the [MADC theater] on September 7th and 9th. As I stepped into the shoes of John Briggs in the play "Something in the Genes," written by the brilliant Don Woods, directed by the talented Malcolm Micallef, and Assistant Stage Manager Faye Mallia, little did I know that this experience would be nothing short of extraordinary.

The play "Something in the Genes" had a plot that was as intriguing as it was unexpected. Centered around the seemingly trivial act of a stolen can of salmon, the story took an unexpected turn as Mr. John Briggs, my character, decided to report Mrs. Beatrice Holt to the police for this alleged theft. Little did he know that this seemingly insignificant decision would set off a chain of events that would lead to unforeseen and devastating consequences.

Playing the role of John Briggs was a thrilling and challenging experience. Bringing his character to life meant delving deep into the psyche of a man whose actions set off a series of events that would change lives forever. The complexity of his emotions, his motivations, and the unintended fallout of his choices added layers to my portrayal of the character.

The cast of "Something in the Genes" breathed life into every moment on stage. Working alongside Angelique Attard, Asen Bukov, Gordon Watson, and Rebecca Grech was an inspiring journey of collaboration and creativity. Each cast member brought their unique perspective and skills, enriching the dynamics of the play and creating an on-stage chemistry that was both captivating and electrifying.

While the audience saw the final product on stage, the magic of the production extended behind the curtains. The guidance of director Malcolm Galea and the meticulous attention to detail from the assistance of Stage Manager Faye Mallia ensured that every scene, every line, and every transition flowed seamlessly. The dedication of the production team and their unwavering support elevated the overall experience of the play.

As the final curtain descended on the MADC One Act Plays 2023, I couldn't help but reflect on the incredible journey I had been a part of. The applause and appreciation from the audience were a testament to the collective effort and dedication that went into the production. However, this chapter is just the beginning of my theatrical journey.

The passion and lessons I've gained from "Something in the Genes" and the MADC One Act Plays will accompany me as I pursue my studies in Musical Theatre at the Bachelor's level at the renowned Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The prospect of honing my skills, diving into new challenges, and expanding my horizons fills me with excitement and anticipation.

My experience during the MADC One Act Plays 2023, particularly in "Something in the Genes," was a roller-coaster of emotions, discoveries, and growth. Portraying John Briggs allowed me to explore the profound impact of seemingly trivial decisions and the complexities of human interactions. The camaraderie among the cast, the expertise of the director, and the dedication of the stage manager combined to create a theater experience that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
